Moravia wines from Tesco
Zámecké Vinařství Bzenec
The varietal composition of our winery includes Chardonnay, Veltlínské zelené (Grüner Veltliner), Muškát Moravský and Sauvignon, though the key and strategic varieties are Rulandské bílé (Pinot Blanc), Ryzlink rýnský (Riesling) and Ryzlink vlašský (Welschriesling). In fact, vineyards such as Klínky, with the varieties odrůdami Rulandské bílé, Ryzlink rýnský and Chardonnay, have left an indelible mark on the modern history of Moravian viticulture. We have won the Czech Wine Salon seven times and our wines have been awarded in many other international and domestic competitions.
Standard wines
After the slump and decline in quality during the totalitarian era, winemaking got a new lease on life thirty years ago, and with the planting of new vineyards and investments in technology, a new chapter in the history of domestic winemaking began to be written. Winemaking has returned to the original owners and their descendants, many new cellars have been built, many new names have come to the limelight, and domestic winemakers have begun to bring home medals and awards from all over the world and can boldly compete with the world's best wines.
To support the development and sale of domestic wines, the Wine Fund was established, through which the awareness of our wines is strengthened and developed and the effective marketing of domestic winemaking is supported. All this was ultimately reflected in the preferences and interest of customers. After the post-revolutionary wave of interest in all things foreign and the boom in cheap foreign wines, they gradually began to return to domestic wines, to seek, try and enjoy them, and to seek out specific winemakers and wines. Over its long history, Tesco has developed and sold products under the name Tesco Finest. This multitude of products guarantee the highest quality thanks to very strict parameters, and at the same time, by buying together in bulk, they can sell this quality at a very affordable price. Tesco Finest wines are the most successful Finest product category and represent a unique selection of the best from the world of wines in terms of the choice of countries and varieties. They almost always are at the top of our assortment in their categories. All this logically led to a plan to develop domestic wines in this quality, as well. We approached our most successful suppliers with a proposal for cooperation, with Tesco setting the parameters according to customer preferences and the suppliers supplying samples according to their current assortment. In addition, the selected supplier undergoes a quality audit according to Tesco's international standards prior to commencing deliveries to ensure a consistent quality throughout the supply period to the maximum extent possible. In order to truly select the best of the best, we worked together with the Wine Fund and approached the Sommelier Association. Six of the Association's most experienced sommeliers, led by its vice-president Ivo Dvořák, chose from nearly a hundred samples and the final short list was very balanced. In the end, a single supplier was chosen as the winner from all the varieties we evaluated - our supplier of many years, Zámecké vinařství Bzenec. The fact that this company subsequently became the 2021 Winemaker of the Year and its subsidiary Mikrosvín took second place just goes to show we made the right choice.
